An opportunity to purchase a home emerged from nowhere in the last week and has been greatly distracting. The property has personal history for me (the antithesis of the make-do Brooklyn studio we wrote an offer on) and so the transaction is . . . entangling. Anxiety, want, nostalgia, ambivalence, annoyance, impatience and endlessly treacherous financial details keep crashing upon me in seemingly endless waves. I feel sick and consumed, holding my breath, scraping the bottom of a sea for a tiny pearl.
So that’s complicated but here’s something simply beautiful, for Monday, by Nicky Haslam (click the photo for the Vanity Fair profile about him):
How’s the start of your week? What beautiful images are getting you through Monday?

good luck with the new home
Wow, best of luck. On the beauty end of things, there’s a blog I’ve been following about the restoration of a Second Empire home in Cincinnati. I don’t always agree with the writer’s agenda, and I don’t think that I’d want to live in a pristinely restored home like his, but some of his projects are amazing and look really well-executed, like this hand-painted ceiling and trim and custom cornice. It’s a far cry from a lot of the DIY projects you see online.
How exciting! And to think I’m making myself crazy just trying to decide whether to buy a sofa.
I want the Nicky Haslam chairs in faux tortoise! They are picking me up and the end of the week. Love your blog, come visit
Oooooo! I have all of my bits crossed for you.
